Two emergency departments. Two different patient populations. One Director.
Not every Emergency Services Director position offers the opportunity to lead both a traditional emergency department and one dedicated to cardiac emergencies.
We're recruiting a Director of Emergency Services for two hospitals in the Southwest. Together, the departments have 28 ED beds and approximately 60 employees.
One department provides general emergency care, while the other operates within a specialized cardiovascular hospital, treating patients with complex cardiac emergencies.
The hospitals have an established record of clinical quality, including national recognition for cardiac and stroke care.
The Opportunity
The next Director will have an opportunity to strengthen emergency operations across both departments, working closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration.
Patient flow, staffing, and team development will be important priorities. The organization is looking for someone who understands how these issues connect and can bring the right people together to make improvements.
This is a role for a leader who enjoys being involved in department operations, knows how to earn the confidence of their staff, and has the experience to make difficult decisions when needed.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Lead emergency nursing operations across two hospital departments, overseeing approximately 60 staff members.
- Evaluate throughput, patient flow, staffing, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop nursing leaders and strengthen employee engagement, retention, and accountability.
- Work closely with emergency physicians and other hospital departments to improve coordination of care.
- Oversee department budgets, productivity, quality measures, regulatory compliance, and patient experience.
- Partner with hospital leadership on operational priorities and initiatives.
Who We're Looking For
We're interested in experienced ED Directors as well as established ED Managers who are ready for broader responsibility.
Requirements
- Active RN license or eligibility for New Mexico licensure.
- BSN required; candidates actively enrolled in an BSN program with an established completion date may be considered.
- Minimum three years of nursing leadership experience.
- Emergency Services leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Strong ICU leaders may also be considered.
- Master's degree preferred.
Beyond the credentials, we're looking for someone who has demonstrated the ability to lead teams, improve operations, and work effectively with physicians and hospital leadership.
